Fast Buds vs Royal Queen Seeds: Who Dominated Autoflower World Cup 2026?

Every year the same argument flares up in grow forums and Discord channels: which seed bank really owns the autoflower crown? In 2026, Fast Buds and Royal Queen Seeds were the two names at the center.

Both are giants, and both left Berlin in June with something to brag about. Fast Buds took more hardware across the board, while Royal Queen Seeds entered the single highest-scoring strain of the whole competition. The scorecards back up both readings.

Why these two make a clean comparison

Autoflower World Cup results carry weight because of how the judging works. Every sample is coded and stripped of branding, so the seven-judge panel scores on look, smell, and smoke without knowing whose strain it is, and the category tables are published judge by judge. The Best Breeder title runs on a separate public vote rather than a panel. So a seed bank cannot buy its way up the table or lean on reputation. That makes a head-to-head between two big breeders genuinely useful for a grower deciding where to spend money.

Fast Buds and Royal Queen Seeds both brought a full state of entries across the min categories in 2026, which is why they make such a clean comparison. Most other breeders showed up in one lane. These two competed almost everywhere.

Best Sativa Autoflower: Royal Queen Seeds takes the top prize

This is the category Royal Queen Seeds can point to and win the room. Their Trainwreck Auto scored 162 points and pulled four gold medals out of a 21-strain field, the highest score of any strain in any category all year. Nothing else in 2026 touched it.

Trainwreck Auto is a mostly-sativa cross of the classic Trainwreck and Big Skunk Auto, with a pine-and-citrus terpene profile and a sharp, herbal edge that shows up clearly on smell. It also brings an uplifting, creative high and THC in the low twenties, so it has something to offer on each of the three things judges score: look, smell, and smoke.

Fast Buds had no strain that high, but it had more of them near the top. Mango Frost Auto landed second at 135 points, and Mango Cherry Runtz Auto took third at 134. So Fast Buds took two of the three podium spots, a strong showing in a 21-strain field, even if Trainwreck Auto set a number no one matched. Both brands walk away with a fair claim: Royal Queen Seeds for the single best strain, Fast Buds for the depth just behind it.

Best Indica Autoflower: Fast Buds run the table

Fast Buds swept the top two places in the largest category of the event, 28 strains deep. Mendo Frost Auto won it with 127 points, and Gorilla Z Auto followed in second at 123. Ethos Genetics squeaked in behind them for third.

Fast Buds built Mendo Frost Auto from two award-winning parents: Frostbanger Auto, one of the strongest entries at the 2025 Autoflower World Cup, and Mendo Frost, which won the American Autoflower Cup the same year. The indica category was also the deepest field of the event at 28 strains, so a one-two finish there took more than topping a thinner lineup.

Royal Queen Seeds did not place in the indica top three at all. Their best indica entry, Do-Si-Dos Auto, finished fourth on 119 points, one point shy of the podium. The indica category drew the most entries of any division in 2026, so winning it outright, with a one-two finish, is the kind of result that sells seeds.

Best New Autoflower 2026: a split decision.

Bud Voyage, a rising breeder, took first with 146 points and beat both giants. Royal Queen Seeds came second with its Gaia F1 Hybrid at 145, a single point off the top. Fast Buds placed third with GMO Auto at 133.

Call this one a narrow edge to Royal Queen Seeds. Their new release finished higher and nearly won the whole category, while Fast Buds rounded out the podium. Neither brand owned the lane, which is worth noting when a company claims total supremacy.

The Best Breeder vote: Fast Buds, by a whisker

The Best Autoflower Breeder award is decided differently. It is a public vote on the Autoflower World Cup site, not a panel score, so the ranking comes from the community.

Across 37 breeders, Fast Buds won it with 2,970 votes. Royal Queen Seeds came second with 2,828. Zamnesia Seeds trailed far back at 946.

The margin, 142 votes, is close. It tells you these two brands have passionate, roughly equal followings, and that Fast Buds edged ahead with the crowd by the thinnest sliver of the whole event. A public vote is a popularity contest as much as a quality one, so the two are basically neck and neck, with Fast Buds just ahead.

Fast Buds vs Royal Queen Seeds: the verdict

Lay the four categories next to each other and then shape is easy to read.

  • Sativa: Royal Queen Seeds won it outright with Trainwreck Auto and its 162 points, with Fast Buds second and third behind it.
  • Indica: the mirror image, Fast Buds first and second, Royal Queen Seeds down in fourth and off the podium
  • Best New Autoflower: both finished behind the winner, Bud Voyage; Royal Queen Seeds second and Fast Buds third.
  • Best Breeder: The public vote went to Fast Buds, 2970 to 2828

Fast Buds collected more podium finishes across the board, won the biggest and most crowded category outright, and took the community breeder vote. On breadth and consistency, they dominated. Royal Queen Seeds produced the single strongest strain anyone entered all year. On peak performance, they have the trophy strain.

So who dominated depends on what you value. A grower chasing one elite sativa should look hard at Trainwreck Auto. If you want a deep catalogue of reliable, award-grade genetics across both indica and sativa, Fast Buds has the stronger case. Both readings hold up against the actual scores, which is more than the marketing on either side usually admits.
