What Is Indicasativa, And Why You Should Attend It?

The IndicaSativa International Cannabis and Hemp Fair 2023 is, without the slightest doubt, the most important cannabis and hemp-centric trade show on the annual Italian calendar.

With a stacked bank of exhibitors covering all facets of cannabis culture and cultivation (featuring top-shelf brands like Fast Buds, Barneys Farms, Paradise Seeds, CANNA, High Times, and Leafly to name just a few), a range of guest speakers with more than a few centuries of combined knowledge to share, and a variety of hands-on experiences to get the crowd involved - there truly is no other event in Italy that comes close.

IndicaSativa History and Location

IndicaSativa takes place in the stunningly beautiful city of Bologna, Italy. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and rich cultural heritage, this location is the perfect backdrop for any event, especially IndicaSativa.

Cannabis cultivation has an extensive recorded history in Italy, dating all the way back to Roman times (and probably even further). In Rome, it was used in a plethora of ways, apart from being one of the intoxicants of choice - from hemp ropes to brooms, textiles, and even as a basis for some of the earliest banking basins.

There is hard evidence of cannabis being a human-processed plant dating all the way back to the Late Pleistocene era, with core samples extracted from the Albano and Nemi lakes showing that cannabis plants were part of agricultural programs during prehistory.

The city is situated in the Emilia-Romagna region, famous for its rich cultural heritage, gastronomy, and great hospitality. Located in the Northern area of Italy (almost smack bang in the middle intersection of the major cities of Milan, Florence, Venice, and Genoa) just 80 km west of the stunning Adriatic coast, Bologna is well worth a visit during any Italian vacation - and especially when the IndicaSativa event is on.

The first edition of the show was held in August 2013 at the Unipol Arean (where it has been subsequently run in the years since) and was an overwhelming and resounding success, with more than 14000 visitors attending during its three days. Italy is what most would consider in a certain state of limbo when it comes to marihuana legalization, but with this landmark event receiving such high praise and press in the past decade, the future of cannabis and hemp in Italy is no longer so uncertain.

There was a brief pause to the festivities during the COVID period, but it all kicked off again last year. The 2022 event saw the largest gathering to date, with upwards of 15,500 visitors over the 3-day period, and more exhibitors than ever before.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the trade fair and for this special occasion, the organizers have added a few more surprises and extra attractions to spice it up even further, but more on this a little further down.

IndicaSativa 2023

To celebrate stand commemorate the tenth birthday of IndicaSativa events, the organizers have made some very special additions for the 2023 event.

This includes a wide variety of activities and interactive experiences - from master classes, workshops, and seminars to tasting sessions, product demonstrations, live music performances, and a bunch more...

The organizers have also gone as far as to create a Cannabis Cup Award, which will be presented to the best exhibitors from each category at the end of the fair. Previous categories include

Best Seed Bank
Best Outdoor Flower
Best Indoor Sativa
Best Indoor Indica
Best Extract
Best Edible
